Whats Easier to Learn? Russian or Arabic?
I want to either learn Russian or Arabic. Which is easier for me to learn? And which one is more useful in the world.
I currently speak French, Spanish, Portuguese, and English
I am half Arabian/half Russian. And my profession is linguist.
Russian is Slavonic Language. Slavonic languages are part of Indo-European Language Family. French, Spanish and Portuguese are Romanic Languages. English in Germanic Language. They all are languages of Indo-European origin. It means that they have practically the same basic lexis and the common patterns of grammar. In Russian there are a lot of English, French and German borrowings. Russian Grammar is rather similar to Grammar of Romanic languages. So, for a european Person it is easier to understand a Russian speaker than an Arabic-speaker. Arabic is a semitic Language that has another patterns of grammar than European languages. there are some borrowings from European languages in arabic, but not so many. And the Alphabet.. Russian alphabet is different than English, but some letters are the same. Arabic alphabet is absolutely different.
So it is easier to learn Russian, but it can depend on your likes and wishes.
Russian is used in all former Soviet Union
Arabic is used in Middle-East and North Africa and also in some muslim countries.
But one more point for Russian: arabic people usually know european languages. Russian people don't know. Not everybody, but the majority of Russians knows only their mothertongue. so if you don't know Russian it'll be difficult to communicate with them.
