My laptop uses a 19 Volt power supply according to the panel on the underside, it has a standard 240V transformer. The mobile home operates on a 12 Volt power supply when disconnected from a 240 Volt mains pwer supply.
If I plug my laptop into the standard sockets in the mobile home, will the battery in the laptop charge? Is there any risk of damage to the laptop if I charge the battery in this way?
You can purchase a power inverter at any outdoor goods store which will convert the 12V DC to 240 AC. They are available between $30 and $120 for a range of power raitings from 30W to over 1KW. You will only neeed 30 or 40W for a laptop depending on what else is going on but have a read of the underside of your laptop and think about if you will want to plug in any other small device. They are also very useful for charging cell phones. They are sold with short circuit, over current and low battery protection in order to stop you drawing too much current from the battery or flattening the battery of the vehichle. They will plug into cigarette lighter sockets but many are also sold with two crocodile clips for direct battery connection.
