Laptop Optical Drive Not Working
My laptop says that its optical drive is compatible with DVD+/-RW. So i assumed that it would accept DVD+/-R. ?
I have a windows vista vostro 1310 laptop. One day i decided to buy some blank DVD's, so i went out and bought some DVD+R, I had no clue that there were different formats...I slid the disk into my laptop's drive, but its like it wouldn't recoognize the disk. It would spin for a little inside my drive, then stop, and it repeated that until it just stopped and did nothing. So i did a little bit of research and figured out that there were different formats of DVD's. Like: (DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, and DVD RAM) and some others for older computers...So no DVD+R would work, so i tried a DVD-R, but that is not working either. on the compatibility list it says that my laptop is compatible with DVD+/-RW, should i go out and buy the DVD+/-RW? I am not going to quit!!!
DVD drives accepting +/- RW (rewritable) media should accept +/- R (write once/read many) media too.
There may be a problem with your drive and here are my suggestions to find the problem and have it repaired.
CAUTION: Before you begin any of the procedures, follow the safety instructions that shipped with your computer.
In the service manual for your model, there are these suggestions:
A) If a device is either not detected during the operating system setup or is detected, but incorrectly configured, you can use the Hardware Troubleshooter to resolve the incompatibility.
1. Click the Windows Vista start button and click Help and Support.
2. Type hardware troubleshooter in the search field and press
3. In the search results, select the option that best describes the problem and follow the remaining troubleshooting steps.
B) Access the Dell Support Utility used for self-support information, software updates, and health scans of your computing environment from the icon on the taskbar or from the Start menu.
If the Dell Support icon does not appear in your taskbar:
1. Click Start® All Programs® Dell Support® Dell Support Settings.
2. Ensure that the Show icon on the taskbar option is checked.
NOTE: If the Dell Support Utility is not available from the Start menu, go to support.dell.com and download the software.
The Dell Support Utility is customized for your computing environment.
