my dad has a laptop with a centrino duo 1.66ghz and im getting a laptop with a core 2 duo 1.8ghz whats faster?

both of the laptops have 1 gb of ram and are both 64 bit processors? i now for a fact that the core 2 duo is, but is the centrino duo a 64 bit processor? the core 2 duo is windows xp professional sp2 and the centrino duo is windows xp media center edition sp2

The 1.8Ghz is faster. Why do you think the 1.66ghz is faster? because it says duo? Are you one of those people who thinks that because there is a duo in the name, you multiply the number by two or something? This is not true...

I'll use the example i got from somewhere else: you have a car going at 60 m.p.h just like any car, it has 4 wheels...

Following your logic, the car is going at 60 times 4, since there are 4 tires...

get it now? does not matter if it says "Centrino" or "Duo" in the name... the numbers are pretty much all that matter

Upgrading laptop CPU?

I have a Lifebook C-2210 and want to upgrade the CPU. How can I choose the CPU for a laptop?
It now has a Pen 4-M 1.8Ghz (TDP 30W) and I checked some of the higher Ghz ones with the same name and they have 35W TDP. Is it OK to use them?
Also can I use other than Pen 4-M?
