changing out laptop screens?

Due to a broken lcd screen, I am changing it out with another one i bought. My laptop is a lenovo thinkpad t61. However, when i hooked up the new screen and turned on my laptop i can't see anything. The screen lights up, but it remains black.

Therefore, I am wondering is if is possible that a laptop that had an xga screen be compatible with a wxga screen (the one i bought is wxga 14.1 inch)? thanks alot.

You are asking if you were to purchase a LCD panel for a laptop that was not an exact replacement, are there reasons why it would not work? Yes, there are reasons why it might not work.

It is PROBABLE that the WXGA screen you purchased for your laptop is incompatible with the Thinkpad t61 that you bought. Did your laptop originally have a WXGA+ (1440x900 resolution) or a WXGA (1280x800 resolution)? You need to make sure that the screen you replace the broken one with, is an exact replacement. That model was not supposed to come with an XGA (1024x768 resolution) screen.

Switching laptop bodies?

I have a Toshiba laptop, and the top of the body where my palms rest are very smooth and so are all the keys on the keyboard. I dont have any other problems anywhere else except for those 2 spots, I hate how it picks up the oils on my hands, and just looks like shit and I kind of dont like how it feels. If I could I would love to have a roughed up kind of feel in those two spots, that way my prints wouldnt be every where. Is there anything I can do about it? Like maybe scuff it up with sandpaper or something to take that sheen off, or is there a way to just flat out switch the body and keyboard? Id rather not switch bodies if thats even possible, but what else can I do?

You can use thin latex sticker coverings. Some people put foil stickers over these spots.

There are rubber coverings you can get too. Problem is, you need to look in craft stores, not the local PC shop.
