What type of laptops have great memory storage and are good to use with Photoshop or other artistic programs?
I'm about to be a senior in high school this year, and I need a new computer. My old WIndows XP barely had any memory, so that's the main aspect I'm looking for in a new laptop. But I also love to and would like a career in digital art & design, so I need a computer that works well with Photoshop type programs. Can anyone help me here?
I have a macbook pro - its designed to work best with these kind of programs. changing from windows to mac can be quite a challenge but its totally worth it. i have no regrets!

What operating system would run best on an ancient notebook? Can Linux save me?
I was recently given a 10 year old IBM ThinkPad. It has a 4GB hard drive and 64 somethings of RAM. (not sure of the unit of measurement there).
I managed to figure out how to hook it up to the internet, however, since most web pages are much more intense than they were 10 years ago, the notebook runs mighty slow on its Windows 98 platform.
My question is this... can this super slow speed be resolved by installing a different, much leaner operating system? I'm trying to learn about linux - do they offer something bare-bones-ish? Anyone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I also rec them because they use old fashioned text installers instead of extremely resource hungry live cds.
If you end up wanting to try the zippy Xubuntu, I would rec you downloading the alternative cd, it is a text installer instead of a live cd.
In terms of live cds DSL and Puppy might be the only ones you can run."
I'm using Debian on an older desktop and it can be slow but it works.
