As in the market trend the struggle for "the smallest unit" came to an end, the struggle for "the most convenient device" begins. It is accompanied by (among others) increasing of the size and screen resolution, the appearance of a set of software players and book readers for various file formats. For example a former telephone (primarily of the type Smartphone iPhone) or its equivalent (such as iPod Touch) is increasingly seen as a comfortable alternative to specialized devices for reading - e-books.

 

It is very probable that the convergence will go from turning the reading e books into the universal device with PDA functionality, or go the way of convergence of the emergence of PDA into e books viewers. If implemented the first version (as it already began to be implemented), then e-books, as a specialized unit, will become a niche product with all the shortcomings of this (high prices, not all formats are supported, followed by the need of conversion organizing). And only if it is implemented the second option, the e-books (specialized devices) have a chance to stay in the mainstream (to where it is now closely approaching) with all its attendant pleasures and benefits.
