File Storage options on the Android aPad
Most Tablet PCs users download songs, movies and eBooks to enjoy them as they go from place to place. The main concern that many people face is that there is not enough space to store all multimedia content at one go. Some users use a lot of internet bandwidth (which at times translates to money) to access their content from the growing number of storage clouds. What happens if you need to listen to your stored data when there is no Internet connectivity?
Although the Apple iPad is still the fastest selling Tablet PCs in the market, the current model (at this time of posting this article) does not come with any accessory to load or save multimedia locally.
This article highlights the ways one can store and retrieve information using the Android Tablet PCs.
The file storage options are listed below:
Using SD or MicroSD cards: This is a wonderful method of saving or retrieving information onto your Tablet PC. Imagine transferring the MicroSD card from your mobile phone or personal computer to your aPad to display your pictures or listen to your songs. Note that Micro SD cards above 32GB are not supported by most Android Tablet PCs
Using Jump Drives (or USB Memory Sticks): Most 7 inch and 10 inch aPads come with a USB interface that will enable you connect Flash Drives to your Tablet PCs.
- If your aPad comes with a mini A USB port, you can use a mini A to female B USB cable to attach your jump drives to your aPad. You will use this option in the 7 inch aPads and some 10 inch apads. Accessing the jump drive is done by accessing the "SCSI" folder using any file explorer tool like ES File Explorer or OI File Explorer.
- If your aPad comes with a USB port like most 10 inch aPads do, simply attach the flash drive to the device. Use a file utility application to access the contents of the drive.
- In any case, your Tablet PC will take about 2 minutes to mount the jump drives before you can access them.
Using your computer: This is a conventional option that which will work with a mini A to male B USB cable. When you connect your Tablet PC to your computer, your computer will create a logical drive that will link to the internal (flash drive) of your Tablet PC. I discovered that this may not work on some tablets due to driver issues. If this does not work, you could create a dropbox account which is becoming very popular these days.
In summary, accessing information from a Micro SD card or a USB Memory stick is a very convenient method of managing your songs, movies and ebooks with the Android Tablet devices. It not only allows us to converse space on the Internal hard drive, but it also allows us to easily transfer information locally from one computing device to another.
